We don't know how it will look on low settings, or what optimization will be in place upon release, but we do know that Arenanet have been scrounging up older graphiccards to test the game out on, so clearly they ave all of us in mind who do not own premium top-of-the-line gaming rigs.
However, as I said, we have not seen any of this yet as the game is not out yet, so it is pure speculation at this point. I would not worry too much about it though.Guild wars 2 and graphics card question?
It heavily depends on the system you own at the moment. Every computer either has a graphics card or a graphics chip, and there is a wide variety in quality in these. Without even a built-in graphics chip, your computer would not be able to display ANYTHING on the screen.
In general built-in graphics chips are low to medium quality compared to the high-end graphics cards. Also, laptops are generally not able to handle the load that a high performance graphics card requires, so they have lower performance graphics chips. Still, even with these low/medium performance graphics chips, you will often be able to play quite a few games (though often only at low/medium settings). These medium performance graphics chips may even be enough to play Guild Wars 2 with.
What you will not be able to do with those, is play the game at maximum resolution, with all the options on max... so it will definitely not look as good as it would on a recent high performance graphics card.
So if you really want to play GW2 at max settings and enjoy all its graphical beauty, then yes, you will need a new high performance graphics card. If you just want to be able to play the game...
Well, as I don't know anything about your current system, and as the system requirements for GW2 have not been released, it's impossible to tell if your current system will be enough to play GW2 on, and if so how it would perform. So in that case I would recommend that you wait until ArenaNet releases the minimum requirements for GW2, and until you know if your current system meets those requirements.
