When Guild wars 2 comes out will i have to start over?

I was just wondering when Guild wars 2 comes out will i have to start new characters. Also my friend wants to play guild wars, dose he need the first one to play the second?When Guild wars 2 comes out will i have to start over?
Yes, you would have to start over.

BUT...

If you have the expansion Eye of the North. Guild Wars 2 will supposedly show you (the current character on Guild Wars) as the ancestor of your Guild Wars 2 character.

So:

So if you had the title: Legendary Survivor, then your Guild Wars 2 character could have the title:

Ancestor of The (a) Legendary Survivor.

It has something to do with The Hall of Monuments in Eye of the North!

Though that is if Area Net stays to their word.

Anyway, Guild Wars 2 is a whole new game!

The 2nd is a whole new game, so yes, you will need to start over, sorry dude. and Nope, separate discs and story and everything, so an original GW disc wont be needed. It is entirely a new game so yeah, just like Everquest 2 you will have to start from scratch.
